World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Back at the ‘Wheels’ in 2008; World Series Finale Returns to 200-lap Format

Weedsport, NY – December 11, 2007 – By Dan Kapuscinski, DIRTcar NorthEast PR and Promotions Coordinator

The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will once again make a return trip to the Rolling Wheels Raceway on Memorial Day.  The ‘King of the Outlaws’, Steve Kinser, will look to defend his feature win of a year ago on Monday, May 26.

Advance Auto Parts will be a part of a blockbuster Memorial Day Weekend of racing.  The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds will be in action Sunday, May 25 at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway, one night before the Outlaws show at Rolling Wheels.

“We’re very proud to say that we can host two outstanding series on back-to-back days at two separate facilities,” said Cayuga County and Rolling Wheels General Manager, Jack Deery.  “You are going to have the best of the best in two separate forms of dirt racing running on consecutive days just miles apart.  It should be an amazing weekend of racing.”

Defending World of Outlaws Champion Donny Schatz, and the rest of the Outlaws posse will be on hand providing wheel-to-wheel winged excitement unlike anything you have ever seen.

While the full Rolling Wheels schedule of events is still being planned, fans can expect the return of some popular dates to this year’s card.

Once again as a part of Labor Day Weekend, the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds will return to the ‘Wheels’ for Twin 50-lap features on Monday, September 1.  This event will be the weekend cap on a four feature swing, beginning with Twin 54’s the night before at Cayuga County Fair Speedway.

Last season Jimmy Phelps and Gary Tomkins were crowned Labor Day event winners at Rolling Wheels.  Billy Decker and Alan Johnson split the Twin 54’s at Cayuga County.

For the 22nd year, World Series Weekend will return to Rolling Wheels on Friday and Saturday, September 26 and 27.  The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds will once again highlight the weekend, with the Mr. DIRT 358-Modifieds and Sportsman also in action.

In 2007, the Big-Block Modifieds ran Triple 50 main events on Saturday night.  Billy Decker, Brett Hearn, and Gary Tomkins rolled under the starter’s tower as race winners.  However, in 2008 the World Series Weekend finale will return to one 200-lap feature event as in years past.

“The twin and triple formats are usually pretty exciting, but in the end we thought that the 200-lapper would lend itself better to the tradition that is World Series Weekend,” said Deery.  “Most times the 200-lap races can provide as much or more excitement, with the need of pit stops throughout the event and different race strategies.”

Be on the look out for a full 2008 schedule of events for Rolling Wheels Raceway in the near future, which will further outline the list of special events at the Elbridge oval for the summer and fall months, including Super DIRT Week.
