Season Of Specials Showcased On Rolling Wheels Raceway 2007 Schedule Elbridge, NY – January 30, 2007 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRT NorthEast PR Director
Rolling Wheels Raceway has remained one of the most popular facilities following a specials-only format for the past quarter-century. The 2007 schedule continues that tradition as the ‘Fast Track’ boasts some of the biggest events on the DIRT MotorSports NorthEast circuit today. The addition of weekly drag racing filling up nearly every Friday night card during the summer makes it a great value in family entertainment that will never be outgrown.
The 39th consecutive season of race activity at Rolling Wheels actually gets underway when the gates swing open at the popular Elbridge, N.Y. track on February 10. On this special occasion it will be the sleds from around the Northeast and Canada running on the ice-covered 5/8-mile oval when the Weedsport Winter Wanderers host the 7th Annual Great Eastern Whiteout featuring an Antique & Vintage Snowmobile Show plus Vintage Snowmobile Races.
"Rolling Wheels is known for offering its fans one of the most diverse schedules and this season sets an even higher precedence," said DIRT MotorSports NorthEast General Manager Jack Deery. "We're looking to attract as many different fans as possible with a wide assortment of race machines to satisfy their tastes. Big-block Modifieds remain the headline division around here yet hopefully our visitors can experience something new and find still another interest on the short-track level."
The 2007 race schedule officially kicks off in May and carries on through October with race dates featuring a variety of both open-wheel and full-fender divisions. Along with the mighty DIRT Big-Block Modifieds, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will venture to the popular Elbridge oval for an annual visit en route to crowning its national champion.
The sixth-month season also includes ‘Furiously Fast Fridays’ offering Street Drag dashes for Domestics, Imports, Trucks, Cycles and 4-Wheelers, with Burnout Contests, music and much more headlining the evening agenda. The months of June, July and August are saved for straight line racing throughout the summer with gates opening on those select Friday nights at 7:30 p.m. and drags pulling off the line at 8 o'clock sharp.
The May 6 season-opener will be highlighted by the always anticipated DIRT Challenge Cup. The 27th edition features a 60-lap $3,000-to-win main event for Big-Block teams along with a special appearance by the American Sprint Car Series Patriot Region point chasers plus the first Mr. DIRT Pro Stock Championship Series event of ’07 on Sunday.
Action continues during the Memorial Day holiday as the World of Outlaws make their annual trek to Central New York on Mon., May 28 to join the DIRT Sportsman Modifieds in a big doubleheader. The ‘King’ Steve Kinser makes his return to Rolling Wheels to take on the likes of defending WoO points champion Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana and Danny Lasoski in this high-speed sprint car spectacular. Tickets are on sale right now at DIRT NorthEast Headquarters in Weedsport, N.Y.
For two-wheel fanatics, the summer season swings into full gear at Rolling Wheels Raceway as Biker’s United presents ‘Cruise-N-Blues’ Weekend on June 15-16.
The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series for DIRT Big-Block Modifieds returns to action Tue., July 3 in the headline 'Firecracker' Championship that is divided into twin 50-lap features for the 36th annual edition. The ASCS Patriot Region stars make their second showing in Elbridge and are accompanied by a full program of Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club action before the real fireworks go off overhead.
A second Sunday race date in July is currently being secured at RWR and an announcement detailing the addition of a first-ever ‘5 Star’ Series DIRT Big-Block Modified and Mr. DIRTcar Street Stock Super 7 Series doubleheader plus a full program of DIRT Sportsman Modified action will be made shortly.
The traditional 37th Robert N. Petrocci Memorial Advance Auto Parts SDS showdown highlights the Labor Day Weekend at Rolling Wheels, with the ground-pounding Big-Block Modifieds contending once more in a pair of 50-lap feature events on Sept. 3. A Mr. DIRT Sportsman Modified Series event and race #4 in the Mr. DIRTcar Street Stock Super 7 Series fill the traditional Monday evening program at the Route 5 oval.
Slated to run again on Friday and Saturday, the all-star 21st Annual World Series of DIRT Track Racing Weekend, Sept. 21-22, will once more attract the finest Big-Block Modified, 358-Modified, Sportsman Modified and Pro Stock entries in Mr. DIRT Championship Series competition. The two-day autumn affair culminates with an Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series finale for Big-Blocks, this season comprised of Triple 50s and all scheduled to be contested under the lights on Saturday.
The Super DIRT Week XXXVI Shootout in October at Rolling Wheels will once again lure big fields and attract standing-room-only crowds. The Mr. DIRT 358-Modified Series special and a Mr. DIRT Sportsman Series event top the Oct. 5 card while the 25-lap ESS/URC/Patriot Challenge for winged sprinters completes the Oct. 6 program.
