Multi-Track Rules For Street & Pure Stock Divisions Tested At Rolling Wheels

Weedsport, NY – April 28, 2006 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRT NorthEast PR Director

DIRT MotorSports NorthEast officials recently established a set of standards which is intended to combine the current Street Stock/Pure Stock rules in place from different tracks to equalize competition around the entire circuit.

Continued efforts to encourage further competition on a more level playing field come to fruition in Central New York when Rolling Wheels Raceway opens on Sunday, May 7. The DIRT Street Stocks join the big-block Modified and Sportsman classes in qualifying for a 15-lap, 400-to-win main event for the only full-fender division on the afternoon card. Rolling Wheels’ 38th lid-lifter goes to the starting line at 2 p.m. with warm-ups scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Pit gates unlock at 10am and the main grandstands opens at 11 o'clock.

“The bottom line is that Street Stocks in this region have developed into something that is far from a Street Stock, more like limited Pro Stocks, maybe even Limited Late Models, and some that have seemed to take on an identity all their own,” said Tonya Moschell, DIRT MotorSports NE General Manager. “Our goal is to get a better handle on the Street Stocks and bring the class back to a purer form that it was always meant to be.”

The experimental standards will be in place for the first time at Rolling Wheels to allow full-fender racers from all dirt tracks in the Northeast, DIRT member and non-member, to compete against each other. Both for the future and betterment of racing, DIRT MotorSports has prepared on a trial basis a set of common rules that will effectively serve to balance competition.

“This year we broke down the Street Stocks into novice and expert divisions to allow for the use of existing equipment at Canandaigua and Weedsport. Novice rules are the purest form and expert rules allow some additional development. These rules will remain in effect as published for those tracks while Rolling Wheels will be a testing ground for what we’re hoping to accomplish in the near future for this entry level division.”

In an effort to not only bolster car counts, hence further competition, at Central New York DIRT tracks and plant the seed for future Street Stock racing around the entire DIRT circuit, DIRT NE technicians have worked together diligently on developing this new multi-track program and will be teching and enforce the rules accordingly on Sunday.

To accommodate all Street Stock teams currently in competition at area dirt tracks, four weight groups have been designated for Rolling Wheels with the following criteria:
