Cayuga County & Rolling Wheels Shows Still A Go During Holiday Weekend

Weedsport, NY – June 30, 2006 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRT NorthEast PR Director

DIRT MotorSports NorthEast officials reported that the recent severe weather conditions that have ravished much of the state’s Southern Tier have not affected Central New York tracks Cayuga County Fair Speedway and Rolling Wheels Raceway. The highly anticipated World of Outlaws Late Model Series/BRP CanAm Series Late Models doubleheader on July 2 at Cayuga County and Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series ‘Firecracker 100’ for DIRT Modifieds at Rolling Wheels on July 3 are currently running right on schedule.

“The phones have been ringing at our Weedsport office in the aftermath of the storm, but we remain high and dry getting ready for the great holiday weekend of racing ahead at all our tracks,” said DIRT NE General Manager Tonya Moschell. “Spread the word that everything is a go and the weather looks good to start off a big month of DIRT racing in July.”

The heavy rain which moved in Tuesday pushed Southern Tier rivers to record flood levels and forced the city of Binghamton to order mandatory evacuations in some sections. Flooding from torrential rain swept away homes and businesses, and forced closure of a117-mile stretch of the New York State Thruway. Outside of Binghamton in the town of Sidney ---residence of current Advance Auto Parts SDS points leader Billy Decker--- two truckers heading in opposite directions on I-88 drove their trucks unto a 25-foot deep hole created by a collapsed culvert.

The deadly deluge that also swamped parts of the East Coast, forced race officials to postpone the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series event scheduled at Fulton Speedway on Wednesday, June 28. DIRT MotorSports and Fulton officials are currently reviewing possible make-up dates for the highly anticipated 9th Annual Showdown At Sundown 100 presented by Budweiser.

At Cayuga County on Sunday, pit gates open at 4:00 p.m., spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m., warm-ups begin at 6:00 p.m., time trials at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $25.00 for adult general admission, $23.00 for senior citizen general admission, $13.00 for student (11 –18 years of age) general admission, free for children (10 years of age and under) general admission and pit admission is $25.00 for members and $30.00 for non-members.

At Rolling Wheels Raceway on Monday, July 3. Pit gates are scheduled to unlock at 3 p.m. and the main grandstands will open at 4 o'clock. Integra Shocks Modified Time Trials will get underway at 6 p.m. followed by qualifying heats for all divisions. With DIRT Sportsman and DIRT Pro Stock also on the evening card, adult general admission tickets are $20 each, Senior Citizens (60 yrs. + over) $18, Students (11-18 yrs) $10 and Children (10 yrs. + under) Free. Warm-ups are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Cayuga County Fair Speedway is located one mile off Exit 40 of the New York State Thruway; a 15-minute trip west from Syracuse and only an hour's venture east from downtown Rochester.
