Carlyle Moves In To Prep Rolling Wheels For Super DIRT Week Specials
By Doug Elkins, DIRT MotorSports Media Correspondent

ELBRIDGE, N.Y. (September 25) – As the leaves begin to change and October gets closer, preparations continue for the 34th edition of DIRT MotorSports NorthEast's biggest attraction --- Super DIRT Week. But just like the changes going on all around us, there are few changes surrounding this prestigious event staged annually at the New York State Fairgrounds in syarcuse. The two main areas of change are occurring in nearby Elbridge, N.Y. at DIRT charter member Rolling Wheels Raceway.

It’s been no secret lately that teams and fans were not happy with the track conditions at this famed 5/8-mile track this season. In response, DIRT MotorSports Inc. has decided to make a change. As fans come in for the traditional Friday and Saturday night Super DIRT Week shows, they will see a new track surface prepped and maintained by DIRT Hall of Famer, Doug “The Ox” Carlyle. Most recently, Carlyle has been busy grooming north country tracks Thunder Alley Speedpark and Can-Am Motorsports Park for owners Charlie and Billy Caprara.

Former Thunder Alley and Can-Am Competition director Paul Szmal commented on Carlyle’s rather innate ability, “Thunder Alley went from zero to hero. I really can’t think of anybody better to prep a race track than a former racer.”

The other change concerning Rolling Wheels relates to the camping situation. Anyone who camped at the speedway during the recent World Series Weekend was greeted by signs informing them that camping would no longer be free. The New York State Health Department requires additional facilities that were not in place before. DIRT MotorSports officials made every effort to keep camping free, but with the new regulations and new facilities added, that was no longer possible. Campers will now be delighted to see bathrooms put in place specifically for them, as well as a dump station and water station to enhance their camping experience.

Camping rates at Rolling Wheels duirng Super DIRT Week XXXIV are $10 a day from Thursday, Oct. 6 through Sunday Oct. 9. Campers in turns one and two are $15 a day with a special four-day permit selling for $45. That amounts to one day of free camping for the four-day camper. Many race fans enjoy spending their DIRT Week at Rolling Wheels and the track staff and management hope everyone enjoys this year’s edition of this most exciting and significant event.
