Hearn Declared RWR Modified Winner; Hindley,
Smith Top Support Classes ELBRIDGE, N.Y. (May 1) – Bob McCreadie crossed the finish line first but be lost out in the post-race inspection. Brett Hearn was declared the winner of the 100-lap Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series season-opener held at Rolling Wheels Raceway. More about this story can be found elsewhere in this paper. Support races were won by Tim Hindley in an exciting 20-lap Sportsman feature and Blane Smith in a walk away victory in the 15-lap Street Stock main. Twenty-three cars answered the call for the start of the 20-lap Sportsman feature. Heat winners Russ Hefti, Rob Pratt and Kevin Bates all started in the front two rows. The fourth heat winner had to run the consolation to make the back of the field due to tech problems following his heat race. Pratt jumped quickly into the lead followed by Hefti and Bates. But as the end of the field was completing the lap Rob Bellinger hooked wheels with another competitor and was sent flipping across the start-finish line, bringing out the red flag with one lap in the record books. The restart saw the yellow fly as the field recorded lap two, this time with Hefti scored as the leader. The yellow flew for Sean Carman, who coasted to a stop in the second turn. Two cars were hooked together on the next restart, Mike Murphy and Kevin Riley. Both cars were able to continue and during this yellow Randy Miller came to a stop on the front stretch and had to be pushed to the pits. Hefti maintained his lead over Pratt and Hindley. On lap six, Hindley looked high and then dove low to take second from Pratt. Hindley then closed in on Hefti when the crossed flags, of halfway, were shown to the field. The yellow flag followed when Lance Willix II slowed on the back stretch. This bunched the field together and allowed Hindley a solid shot at Hefti. But Hefti was too quick on the restart for Hindley and drew away from his pursuers again. With just four laps remaining in the race, Hindley started to pressure Hefti for the lead. Hindley would look high going into three and then duck low to the inside of the fourth turn and try to out drag Hefti down the front stretch. Finally on lap 19, Hindley was able to complete his move and take the lead. Hindley took the win some 1.55 second ahead of Hefti. Pratt came home in third followed by Scott Schrader and Dan Wiesner rounding out the top-five. The 15-lap Street Stocks main saw outside pole-sitter Blane Smith grab the lead and towing fourth place starter Nick Rizzo along to take second. As Rizzo drifted high on the second lap, he allowed Nick Dandino to sail under for the runner-up position. As the race progressed Smith pull away from Dandino, building up a seven car advantage with just five laps remaining in the race. Rizzo lost third to Dave Mannise on lap nine. Smith sailed home the winner followed by Dandino, Mannise, Rizzo and Dave Marcuccilli rounding out the top-five.
